Pushkin's story, which became the literary masterpiece of Tchaikovsky's opera Eugene Onegin (1879), is not just a critical insight into the social conditions of Tsarist Russia. It is also a timeless probe into the human psyche, into the internal struggles between desire, conscience, duty and social necessity. Our production is exceptional also thanks to the fact that it was staged by one of the most respected opera creators of today, the German director Peter Konwitschny.
