De Duitse violist Tobias Feldmann is een regelmatig terugkerende gast bij het Residentie Orkest. Hij brengt vanavond het Vioolconcert van zijn landgenoot Robert Schumann mee. Een verborgen parel in het romantische repertoire, en het enige vioolconcert dat Schumann ooit schreef. Het is een origineel en expressief werk – met een van de mooiste langzame delen ooit – dat de mogelijkheden van de viool en het orkest verkent.

Verder leidt vaste gastdirigent Richard Egarr Beethovens Egmont – een werk dat vandaag de dag actueler is dan ooit. Graaf Egmont kwam op voor de rechten van de Nederlanders tegen de Spaanse koning. Zijn tragische dood inspireerde Goethe tot een toneelstuk, waarvoor Beethoven de muziek schreef: een belangrijk en tijdloos verhaal. De muziek brengt de dramatische scènes en de persoonlijkheid van Egmont tot leven. Egarr – Beethovenspecialist bij uitstek – weet met zijn scherpe interpretatie precies de kracht en expressiviteit te vangen. Speciaal voor het Residentie Orkest vertaalde Ria van Hengel Goethes tekst, acteur van Het Nationale Theater Joris Smit neemt de rol van verteller op zich. Ook bijzonder: de terugkeer van de prachtige lyrische stem van sopraan Nikki Treurniet.

German violinist Tobias Feldmann is a familiar face at the Residentie Orkest. Tonight, he will treat us to his compatriot Robert Schumann's Violin Concerto. This hidden gem in the Romantic repertoire is the only violin concerto Schumann ever wrote. It's an original and expressive piece, featuring one of the most beautiful slow movements ever, that explores the potential of the violin and the orchestra.

Additionally, resident guest conductor Richard Egarr will direct Beethoven's Egmont, a work that is more relevant today than ever. Count Egmont fought for the rights of the Dutch against the Spanish king. His tragic death inspired Goethe to write a play, for which Beethoven wrote the music – an important and timeless story. The music vividly brings to life Egmont's dramatic scenes and personality. Egarr, a Beethoven specialist, perfectly captures its power and expressiveness with his sharp interpretation. Ria van Hengel translated Goethe's text for the Residentie Orkest; Joris Smit, an actor with the National Theatre, will take on the role of narrator. The cherry on top of the cake will be the return of soprano Nikki Treurniet's beautiful lyrical voice to The Hague.
