A muggy afternoon, a fiery evening, a night of dancing. The RSB debut of the Spaniard Pablo Heras-Casado lures with pure passion.

First a lustful faun. He observes bathing nymphs and naiads on a hot summer's day. That's all. But how Debussy lets the blocky-footed fellow doze in the sun while he is dreaming and trying to chase the giggling nymphs is literally hard to believe: the music does not approach the text in painting or description, but illuminating moods, contemplating scents, blinking in the light . In parts of de Falla's ballet music "Love as Sorceress" things are much rougher. Here there are constant changes between brutal rhythmic outbursts and tender, longing singing in the style of Iberian as well as Eastern European folklore. Harmonically, too, "El amor brujo" is based on the tone scales with two augmented seconds that are typical of this music. Minor sixths and major sevenths give the characteristic elegiac sound.
