S jednou ženou rady vím si, ale dvě…? To je dobrá otázka, zvlášť když se ho snaží dostat do chomoutu obě! Slavná opereta v klasickém hávu na jevišti Janáčkova divadla.  

Příběh o rozmařilém polském hraběti Baranském, kterému napraví hlavu i bankrotující hos­podářství rázná Helena Zarembová v přestrojení za prostou vesnickou dívku, záměna osob, dvě ženy ucházející se o jednoho muže – to vše slibuje večer plný zábavy. Půvabná hudební čísla, jako jsou „Blondýnky něžné“, „Jste kavalír, to vím“, „Slyšte jen, jak ten valčík zní“ či vychlou­bání statkáře Zaremby „Jsem jeden z diplomatů“, znají nejen milovníci operety… Přidejte skvělé obsazení, výpravné dobové kostýmy a milovník operety nemůže být zklamán. Polská krev je považována za nejoblíbenější českou operetu, přesto­že libreto k ní v němčině napsal vídeňský spisovatel Leo Stein podle Puškinovy povídky Slečna selka. S nápadem přišla Nedbalova žena Ma­rie, když si během jejich společné cesty do Ruska četla německý pře­klad Puškinových povídek. Navzdory ruskému námětu a německému libretu Nedbalova hudba zůstala výrazně česká a Polská krev se tak od své premiéry v roce 1903 těší zasloužené přízni našich diváků.

I know how to deal with one woman, but two?

Polish Blood, written by the renowned Czech composer and conductor Oskar Nedbal, is one of the most famous and popular Czech operettas. Apart from several theatrical productions, it has also been adapted for film and television. Leo Stein wrote the libretto based on the short story The Squire’s Daughter by Alexander Pushkin. The operetta was first performed in Vienna on 25th October 1913 with the first Czech performance taking place just two months later on 26th December. From that time onwards, thanks to it being a quintessential work of the ‘silver age’ of Viennese operettas, Polish Blood has never left the stage. It is a story about the extravagant Polish count Boleslaw Baranski, the wealthy landowner in Russian Poland Jan Zaremba, and his daughter Helena who is in disguise as a peasant girl. A tale of mistaken identities, two women trying to woo one man, promises an evening full of entertainment. The charming musical numbers such as “Blondýnky něžné” (Sweet Blondes), “Jste kavalír, to vím” (You’re a Cavalier, I Know) and “Diplomat”, are known not only by operetta enthusiasts, but also by the greater public. Funny dialogues, a surprising plotline and above all beautiful melodies, makes it the quintessential Czech operetta.

The new staging of Polish Blood will be the work of a young team: the director, Tomáš Pilař, is already well-known to the Brno audience for his successful production of Papageno Plays the Magic Flute and other collaborations with the National Theatre Brno such as Operetta Gala and the DIVA Awards.  Aleš Valášek, the set and costume designer, is one of the major talents of the young generation of artists in the Czech Republic.

Mit einer Frau weiß ich mir zu helfen, aber mit zwei?

„Polenblut“ gilt als beliebteste tschechische Operette. Ihr Libretto schrieb der Wiener Schriftsteller Leo Stein nach Puschkins Erzählung „Das Fräulein als Bäuerin“. Mit dieser Idee kam Nedbals Frau Marie, als sie während ihrer gemeinsamen Reise nach Russland eine deutsche Übersetzung von Puschkins Erzählungen las. Nedbals Musik blieb ausgesprochen tschechisch. Obwohl der Komponist in Wien tätig war, unterlag er nicht dem dort dominierenden internationalen Ausdruck. 1913 dirigierte er die Wiener Uraufführung. Seit dieser Zeit verschwand die Operette nicht mehr von der Bühne. Die Geschichte vom verschwenderischen polnischen Graf Baranski, dessen Manieren und bankrottes Landgut die schneidige, als Bauernmädchen verkleidete Helena Zaremba retten will, sowie die Personenverwechslung, zwei Frauen, die um einen Mann werben – das alles verspricht einen unterhaltsamen Abend. Reizende Musikstücke wie „Die süßen Blonden“, „Ihr seid ein Kavalier“, „Hören Sie, wie es singt und klingt“ oder die Prahlerei des Gutsherrn Zaremba sind nicht nur Operettenfans wohl vertraut… Das Werk wurde von einem jungen Team in Szene gesetzt: Den Regisseur Tomáš Pilař kennt das Brünner Publikum bereits durch seine erfolgreiche Inszenierung Papageno hraje na kouzelnou flétnu (dt. Papageno spielt auf der Zauberflöte) und andere Projekte mit dem Nationaltheater Brünn (Opereta Gala, DIVA-Preise); Aleš Valášek gehört zu den hervorragenden Talenten der jungen Bildnergeneration.
