Le Comte Ory
First performed in Paris in 1828, Gioachino Rossini's Le Comte Ory is considered one of the most erotic operas in world musical literature. The title character, Count Ory, is a cunning swindler and is obsessed with seducing women. When all husbands have to go to war, Ory immediately seizes the opportunity to approach the female population of a village. The women, however, have taken a vow of chastity, and the loving Count will grit his teeth above all on the beautiful Comtesse Adèle. Even disguised as a nun is of no use to him. Again and again he is exposed and finally has to move away without having reached his goal.

Moshe Leiser and Patrice Caurier have moved the plot from the Middle Ages to the bourgeois, anti-lust ambience of a French village in the sixties of the 20th century. The celebrated production promises a reunion with the American soprano Brenda Rae, who was already inspiring in Zurich as Konstanze in Mozart's Abduction from the Seraglio . Now she is presenting herself for the first time as Comtesse Adèle. The Uruguayan tenor Edgardo Rocha sings the Count, Rebeca Olvera can be seen again in the trouser role of page Isolier. Victorien Vanoosten conducts the Philharmonia Zurich.

1828 in Paris uraufgeführt, gilt Gioachino Rossinis Le Comte Ory als eine der erotischsten Opern der musikalischen Weltliteratur. Der Titelheld Graf Ory ist ein ausgefuchster Schwindler und davon besessen, Frauen zu verführen. Als sämtliche Ehemänner in den Krieg ziehen müssen, ergreift Ory unverzüglich die Gelegenheit, sich an die weibliche Bevölkerung eines Dorfes heranzumachen. Die Frauen haben allerdings ein Keuschheitsgelübde abgelegt, und vor allem an der schönen Comtesse Adèle wird sich der liebestolle Graf die Zähne ausbeissen. Auch eine Verkleidung als Nonne nützt ihm nichts. Immer wieder wird er enttarnt und muss schliesslich von dannen ziehen, ohne an sein Ziel gelangt zu sein.

Moshe Leiser und Patrice Caurier haben die Handlung vom Mittelalter ins spiessbürgerlich-lustfeindliche Ambiente eines französischen Dorfes in den sechziger Jahren des 20. Jahrhunderts verlegt. Die gefeierte Inszenierung verspricht ein Wiedersehen mit der amerikanischen Sopranistin Brenda Rae, die in Zürich bereits als Konstanze in Mozarts Entführung aus dem Serail begeisterte. Jetzt präsentiert sie sich erstmals als Comtesse Adèle. Der uruguayische Tenor Edgardo Rocha singt den Grafen, Rebeca Olvera ist erneut in der Hosenrolle des Pagen Isolier zu erleben. Victorien Vanoosten dirigiert die Philharmonia Zürich.
