If we thought we knew the story of Cinderella, we might be surprised by this Cenerentola , where in a happy and sassy carnival, everyone reverses their social role. The prince hides in the guise of the valet, the valet becomes prince for a time, the philosopher becomes a beggar, the dirty girl becomes a quite prickly princess, far from the usual victims of fairy tales ...
Twentieth opera by a composer of twenty-five years old, La Cenerentolade Rossini still vibrates with all the ideals of youth. It is a comedy of errors which plays on the most traditional figures of the tale, a comedy where pure love, nobility of the heart and kindness triumph over appearances, which one should definitely not be trusted. A breath of liberation, of joyous rebellion, blows on this opera, and Rossini's aerial music carries us here in a dreamlike whirlwind.
