If you thought you knew the story of Cinderella, you might be surprised by this Cenerentola , where in a joyful and impertinent carnival, everyone reverses their social role. The prince hides in the guise of the valet, the valet becomes a prince for a time, the philosopher becomes a beggar, the slut becomes a quite piquant princess, far from the usual victims of fairy tales...
twentieth opera by a twenty-five-year-old composer, La Cenerentola still vibrates with all the ideals of youth. It's a comedy of errors that plays with the most traditional figures of the tale, a comedy where pure love, nobility of heart and kindness triumph over appearances, which should definitely not be trusted. A wind of liberation, of joyous revolt blows over this opera, and Rossini's ethereal music takes us here in a dreamlike whirlwind.
For Clément Poirée, a man of the theatre, “we are no longer quite here in the tale of Perrault or Grimm, but rather in Marivaux or Shakespeare. This is a splendid opportunity to dream with Rossini of our great bursts of freedom in a work imbued with enthusiasm and lightness.
