A masterpiece of late musical romanticism (1892), Iolanta belongs to two eras at once - this farewell of Tchaikovsky to the 19th century is imbued with an alarming premonition of the onset of a new time.

For most of its stage history, Iolanta was on the periphery of Tchaikovsky's operatic heritage, but in recent years it has become one of the most popular titles in the world of musical theater - in the 2010s, many leading directors of our time, from Mariusz Treliński and Peter Sellars to Dmitry Chernyakov. On the stage of the Perm Opera and Ballet Theatre, this baton is taken over by the chief conductor Artem Abashev, the chief director Marat Gatsalov and his constant co-authors - artists Ksenia Peretrukhina, Lesha Lobanov, Ilya Pashnin and video set designer Asya Mukhina.
