The composer Sergio Menozzi delivers a very personal version of Hänsel and Gretel , the opera-tale with Wagnerian accents that Engelbert Humperdinck drew from this legend with a thousand reinventions, the best known being that of the Grimm brothers. Hansel, Gretel…Indeed, puts the children back at the heart of the story by bringing the attention to Gretel, whose ruse overcomes the evil fairy. Restoring to the work the contours of the family entertainment that it was originally, Menozzi notably replaced the initial romantic orchestra with a sextet for flute, clarinet, horn, violin, cello and piano. Here all the roles are given to children in a score transposed for the young voices of the Maîtrise de l'Opéra de Lyon under the direction of Karine Locatelli. The staging is entrusted to Samuel Achache, Molière of the musical show in 2013 for Le Crocodile Trompeur/Didon et Aeneas , who infuses this production with the fears and intelligence of childhood.

C’est une version toute personnelle que le compositeur Sergio Menozzi livre d'Hänsel et Gretel l'opéra-conte aux accents wagnériens qu'Engelbert Humperdinck tira de cette légende aux mille réinventions, la plus connue étant celle des frères Grimm. Hänsel, Gretel… replace en effet les enfants au cœur de l'histoire en portant l'attention sur Gretel dont la ruse vient à bout de la méchante fée. Redonnant à l'œuvre les contours du divertissement familial qu'il fut à l'origine, Menozzi substitue notamment à l'orchestre romantique initial un sextuor pour flûte, clarinette, cor, violon, violoncelle et piano. Ici tous les rôles sont confiés à des enfants dans une partition transposée pour les jeunes voix de la Maîtrise de l'Opéra de Lyon sous la direction de Karine Locatelli. La mise en scène en est confiée à Samuel Achache, Molière du spectacle musical en 2013 pour Le Crocodile Trompeur/Didon et Enée, qui insuffle à cette production les peurs et l’intelligence de l’enfance.
