Der ﬁnnische Dirigent Hannu Lintu kommt zu seinem Debüt bei den Berliner Philharmonikern als musikalischer Botschafter seines Heimatlandes. So präsentiert der Chefdirigent der Finnischen Nationaloper Kaija Saariahos sphärisches Ciel d’hiver und die Siebte Symphonie von Jean Sibelius: ein formal innovatives Werk, dessen herb-nordischer Ton an die Weiten der ﬁnnischen Landschaften erinnert. Eingangs hören wir Olivier Messiaens orchestrale Klage Le Tombeau resplendissant und das hochvirtuose, mit barocken Formen spielende Violinkonzert von Igor Strawinsky mit Vilde Frang als Solistin.

The Finnish conductor Hannu Lintu makes his debut with the Berliner Philharmoniker as musical ambassador of his home country. As such, the chief conductor of the Finnish National Opera presents Kaija Saariaho’s ethereal Ciel d’hiver and Jean Sibelius’ Seventh Symphony: a formally innovative work whose harsh, Nordic tone is reminiscent of the vastness of the Finnish landscapes. The concert opens with Olivier Messiaen’s orchestral lament Le Tombeau resplendissant and Igor Stravinsky’s highly virtuosic Violin Concerto which plays with Baroque forms, with Vilde Frang as the soloist.
