Insula orchestra embarks on a journey to German Romantic lands. Franz Schubert takes pride of place with his “Tragic” Symphony, whose minor key accentuates its atmosphere of anxiety. However, Laurence Equilbey, after previously recording the work of Louise Farrenc, has chosen to balance Schubert’s work with a symphony by Emilie Mayer, a 19th-century female composer with an impressive catalog – a piece that helps us understand why she was frequently named “the female Beethoven”.

Insula orchestra propose un voyage dans les terres romantiques allemandes. Si Franz Schubert y occupe une place de choix avec notamment sa Symphonie « tragique » dont la tonalité en mineur accentue l’inquiétude, Laurence Equilbey, après avoir enregistré l’œuvre de Louise Farrenc, choisit de mettre en écho une symphonie d’Emilie Mayer, compositrice du XIXe siècle, une véritable célébrité de l’époque au catalogue impressionnant. Une œuvre qui permet de comprendre pourquoi elle a été souvent surnommée « la Beethoven au féminin ».
