It's war. The father of the gods, Wotan, fathered several Valkyries whose task is to bring about as many deadly battles as possible in order to then lead the fallen heroes to Valhalla for Wotan's army. But in order to finally be safe from Alberich, Wotan has to get the ring back. His hope rests on his son Siegmund. But he falls in love with his twin sister Sieglinde, who in turn is married to Hunding, and makes her pregnant. Wotan's wife Fricka, the guardian of the marriage, not only forces Wotan to withdraw his support for Siegmund in the duel with Hunding, but even to have Siegmund killed. However, the eldest of the Valkyries, Wotan's favorite daughter Brünnhilde, defies the instruction, so that Wotan himself has to intervene, sacrifice his son and then punish Brünnhilde severely. He puts her to sleep on a rock, where she must then belong to whoever finds her. Finally, to mitigate the punishment, he places a ring of fire around Brünnhilde so that only a true hero will be destined to get through to her...

 
The   musical highlights are lined up in Die Walküre : Siegmund's sonorous winter storms, Brünnhilde's solemn and dramatic death announcement, the famous Ride of the Valkyries and Wotan's touching farewell with fire magic.
 
The dress rehearsal for Die Walküre was the last event in the Landshut theater tent that took place before the first theater was closed in March 2020. We are all the more pleased that the Lower Bavarian premiere of Wagner's Der Ring des Nibelungen can finally be continued.
