"The Bird Seller" is by far the most popular operetta by Carl Zeller. The work, which features well-known hits like "Hello, everyone," "I'm Christel from the post office" or "You give yourself roses in Tyrol", tells the turbulent love story between the Tyrolean bird dealer Adam and the postwoman Christel from the Palatinate: The whole mess started with the Elector having announced that he was going to hunt wild boar, but then canceled at short notice. This gives the game master, Baron Weps, the idea of ​​letting his nephew Stanislaus play the role of elector in order to get money out of the pockets of the local farmers.

In the meantime, Adam has arrived from Tyrol and is looking forward to seeing his bride again. Christel, in turn, wants to ask the elector today to get Adam a job so that they can finally get married. So she meets Stanislaus, the false elector. He wants to discuss pretty Christel's wish with her alone in the electoral hunting pavilion. Christel agrees, whereupon Adam becomes jealous. And the appearance of the Electress Marie disguised as a peasant girl, with whom Adam then flirts out of anger at the allegedly unfaithful Christel, does not make the situation any easier.
