Cosi fan tutte or the school of lovers marks the last stage of the most exemplary artistic collaboration in the history of opera. It is said that it was Emperor Joseph II himself who proposed the piquant subject to Mozart and Da Ponte: a story of betrayal, with an exchange of couples, inspired by a small story that took place in Viennese or perhaps Venetian high society. Quite a different thing than the literary sources of The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni, but the Mozartian genius manages to transform even that rather trivial subject into gold. Cosi fan tutte debuted at the Burgtheater in Vienna on 26 January 1790. The opera could perhaps repeat the success of the Nozze,were it not for the unexpected death of Joseph II after the fourth performance. There are many, however, who turn up their noses at the last gem of the Mozart-Da Ponte trilogy, wrongly considering it a silly opera and far inferior to the previous ones. In reality, behind the apparent lightness of the subject matter, the amorous inconstancy of women, there is a fine investigation into human action. Mozart is well aware that the "needs of the core" - which induce Fiordiligi and Dorabella to surrender respectively to the court of Ferrando and Guglielmo in disguise - are universal and he does not judge them but he understands them by transferring them to a highly refined score with multiple levels of reading. Note after note, the work takes on the contours of a dangerous game on the laws of nature,tout court . The work marks the second revival of Sven-Eric Bechtolf's show after the March 2021 recording and the following August/September performances.

Così fan tutte ossia la scuola degli amanti segna l’ultima tappa della collaborazione artistica più esemplare della storia dell’opera. Si narra che sia stato lo stesso imperatore Giuseppe II a proporre il piccante soggetto a Mozart e a Da Ponte: una storia di tradimenti, con scambio di coppia, ispirata a un fatterello di cronaca avvenuto nell’alta società viennese o forse veneziana. Ben altra cosa rispetto alle fonti letterarie de Le nozze di Figaro e Don Giovanni, ma il genio mozartiano riesce a trasformare in oro anche quel soggetto piuttosto banale. Così fan tutte debutta al Burgtheater di Vienna il 26 gennaio 1790. L’opera potrebbe forse bissare il successo delle Nozze, se non fosse per la morte inaspettata di Giuseppe II dopo la quarta recita. Sono in molti, tuttavia, a storcere il naso davanti all’ultima gemma della trilogia Mozart-Da Ponte, considerandola, a torto, un’operina insulsa e di gran lunga inferiore alle precedenti. In realtà, dietro all’apparente leggerezza del tema trattato, l’incostanza amorosa delle donne, si cela una fine indagine sull’agire umano. Mozart sa bene che le “necessità del core” - che inducono Fiordiligi e Dorabella a cedere rispettivamente alla corte di Ferrando e Guglielmo sotto mentite spoglie - sono universali e non le giudica ma le comprende trasferendole in una partitura raffinatissima e dai plurimi piani di lettura. Nota dopo nota, l’opera assume i contorni di un gioco pericoloso sulle leggi di natura, un esperimento scientifico in forma di commedia musicale che mette a nudo le debolezze umane tout court. L'opera segna la seconda ripresa dello spettacolo di Sven-Eric Bechtolf dopo la registrazione del marzo 2021 e gli spettacoli dell'agosto/settembre successivi.
