Dirigent Martyn Brabbins voelt zich niet alleen thuis in het symfonische repertoire, maar kent ook het brassbandgenre door en door. En wist je dat de Vlaamse bands tot de wereldtop behoren? Brabbins keert dus maar wat graag terug naar Antwerpen, waar hij tot in 2015 eerste gastdirigent was van het Antwerp Symphony Orchestra. In 2025 mag de Festival Brass Band bovendien 25 kaarsjes uitblazen. Dat vieren we met de Belgische première van het wervelende Concerto grosso voor brassband en orkest van Gavin Higgins. De componist noemt zijn compositie een ‘liefdesbrief aan de wereld van de brassband’. Met de Enigmavariaties van Edward Elgar begeeft het Antwerp Symphony Orchestra zich op klassiek terrein. In veertien variaties schetst Elgar luchtige beschrijvingen van zijn vrienden, doorspekt met humor én ernst, aldus de componist. Geniet van deze heerlijke muzikale ode aan de vriendschap.
