At the same time dramatic and emotional, rich in melodic inventions and bold harmonies with which the author skillfully evokes the serenity of a Sicilian village where love passions boil like wine, and the actions of the characters are dictated by strict social norms. Powerful music, a dynamic and dramatic plot grown out of a hot Sicilian temperament speaks of love and jealousy, unbelief, longing, hypocrisy and fatal revenge. 

The first veristic opera to which the aged Verdi gave full recognition, delights the audience even 130 years after its premiere. Moreover, more stocks, such as the famous interlude between the ninth and tenth scenes, have achieved cult status in popular culture - in films such as  Raging Bull  and  Godfather 3  , music from the Cavalry has been used extensively.  The popularity of the opera is evidenced by the fact that at the time of the composer's death in 1945, it had already been performed 14,000 times in Italy alone. Libretists Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti and Guido Menasci took as a basis the novel of the same name by Giovanni Verge. Pietro Mascagni is just with Cavalleripresented to the world musical-scenic verism. Although Mascagni wrote an even greater number of operas, he failed to surpass the success of the debut. Friend Fritz (1891), Iris (1898), Masks (1901), Isabeau (1911) only partially, in some passages, reveal the composer of the great Cavalleria .

Istovremeno dramatična i emotivna, bogata melodijskim invencijama i smjelim harmonijama kojima autor vješto dočarava vedrinu sicilijanskog sela u kojem ljubavne strasti vriju kao vino, a postupke likova diktiraju stroge društvene norme. Moćna glazba, dinamičan i dramatičan zaplet izrastao iz vrelog sicilijanskog temperamenta govori o ljubavi i ljubomori, nevjeri, čežnji, licemjerju i fatalnoj osveti. 

Prva veristička opera kojoj je i ostarjeli Verdi dao puno priznanje, oduševljava publiku i 130 godina nakon praizvedbe. Štoviše, više je dionica, poput čuvenog intermezza između devete i desete scene, postiglo kultni status u popularnoj kulturi - u filmovima poput Pobješnjeli bik i Kum 3 obilato je korištena glazba iz Cavallerije. Popularnosti opere svjedoči i podatak da je u vrijeme skladateljeve smrti 1945. godine samo u Italiji već bila izvedena 14 tisuća puta. Libretisti Giovanni Targioni-Tozzetti i Guido Menasci kao osnovu su uzeli istoimeni roman Giovannija Verge. Pietro Mascagni upravo je s Cavallerijom svijetu predstavio glazbeno-scenski verizam. Iako je Mascagni napisao još oveći broj opernih djela, nije uspio nadmašiti uspjeh prvijenca. Prijatelj Fritz (1891), Iris (1898), Maske (1901), Isabeau (1911) samo djelomično, u ponekim odlomcima otkrivaju skladatelja sjajne Cavallerije.
