Arcydzieło światowego repertuaru operowego – brawurowa hiszpańska ekspresja, poruszająca do głębi historia miłosna i genialna, rozpoznawalna przez wszystkich muzyka

Carmen – chyba nie ma na świecie opery, która budziłaby więcej skojarzeń, której echo słyszał każdy, przynajmniej w kręgu kultury europejskiej. 

Historia wspaniałej, wolnej kobiety w momencie swego powstania budziła sprzeciw; pomysł, by główną bohaterką była zwykła Cyganka, która podejmuje decyzje dotyczące swojego życia tylko i wyłącznie w oparciu o własną wolę, okazał się zbyt rewolucyjny dla premierowej widowni. Pierwsze wystawienie opery w 1875 roku zakończyło się spektakularną klęską, ale już kolejne spektakle odwróciły złą passę. Zaczął się triumfalny pochód Carmen przez wszystkie sceny operowe świata.

Zastanawia, co tak naprawdę przyciąga widzów: czy historia trójkąta miłosnego, czy intrygująca, hiszpańska sceneria, czy fantastyczne, znane wszystkim melodie, czy świetne libretto – autentycznie poruszająca, prawdziwa love story. Powodem może też być jedyna w swoim rodzaju bohaterka – jedna z pierwszych operowych feministek, kobieta, której sednem istnienia i najważniejszą życiową filozofią jest wolność. Carmen może być współczesną idolką – jest odważna, inteligentna, honorowa, wierna sobie, a przy okazji seksowna: doprawdy trudno wyobrazić sobie bardziej wybuchowy koktail!

Być może w niej właśnie widzowie odnajdują swoje tęsknoty za prawdą, za wolnością, za niezależnością, za prawdziwą miłością –za tymi wszystkimi wielkimi słowami, których w codziennym życiu nie używamy, a za których obecnością niezmiennie tęsknimy.

W naszym świecie wciąż są żołnierze tęskniący za kobietami, są kobiety, które wychodzą z pracy na przerwę na papierosa, są dzieci bawiące się w wojnę, są outsiderzy, romantycy, są pobożne dziewczyny z oazy i są sportowi idole. O nich chcemy opowiedzieć, w ich gorący, hiszpański świat chcemy się zanurzyć tak głęboko, jak głęboko mogą dotknąć nuty napisane przez Bizeta, tak daleko, jak daleko poprowadzić nas może prąd tej genialnej muzyki.

Carmen  - there is probably no opera in the world that evokes more associations, the echo of which everyone has heard, at least in European culture. 

The story of a great, free woman was objectionable at the time of its inception; the idea of ​​the main character being an ordinary Gypsy woman who makes decisions about her life solely based on her own will turned out to be too revolutionary for the premiere audience. The first staging of the opera in 1875 ended in a spectacular failure, but subsequent performances turned the bad streak around. Carmen's triumphal procession through all the opera stages of the world began .

One wonders what really attracts viewers: the story of a love triangle, the intriguing Spanish scenery, the fantastic, well-known melodies, or the great libretto - a truly moving, true love story. The reason may also be the unique heroine - one of the first opera feminists, a woman whose essence of existence and the most important life philosophy is freedom. Carmen may be a modern idol - she is brave, intelligent, honorable, true to herself, and at the same time sexy: it's really hard to imagine a more explosive cocktail!

Perhaps it is here that viewers find their longing for truth, for freedom, for independence, for true love - for all those great words that we do not use in everyday life, but whose presence we invariably long for.

In our world there are still soldiers who miss women, there are women who leave work for a cigarette break, there are children playing war, there are outsiders, there are romantics, there are pious oasis girls and there are sports idols. We want to tell about them, we want to immerse ourselves in their hot, Spanish world as deep as the notes written by Bizet can touch, as far as the current of this brilliant music can lead us.
