After an absence of more than thirty years, Adriana Lecouvreur will return to the Comunale (11 and 13 March) in a new staging curated by the Modena Theater in co-production with Piacenza and Parma. The work is dedicated to Mirella Freni , considered one of the most important performers who have covered the title role and sheds new light on the vocal characteristics, the expressive inflections and the dramatic values ​​of her character. In the cast, the tenor Luciano Ganci, who played the role in 2021 at the Royal Opera House and at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna; the soprano Maria Teresa Leva, recent interpreter of Mimì in Bohèmeat the Teatro Regio in Turin and at the Liceu in Barcelona; and Claudio Sgura, an internationally renowned baritone who has been applauded in recent seasons at the Verona Arena, at the National Theater in Prague, at the Royal Opera House in London and at the Bayerische Stattsoper in Munich.

The opera takes place in Paris in 1730. The love between Adriana, an actress of the Comédie-Française, and the Count of Saxony, is opposed by the Princess of Bouillon.
At the gates of realism, Cilea and her librettist Arturo Colautti skillfully set a story that intertwined the world of theater with historical reality. Adriana Lecouvreur really died, as in the opera, from a poisoned bouquet of flowers sent to her by her rival by deceiving her.
