He began studying the violin in 1976 and from 1979 to 1986, was a violinist in the István Gymnasium Symphony Orchestra, and section principle in his last three years. He also undertook a number of violin solos in works by Corelli and Bach's Brandenburg Concerto no. 5. In 1994, he graduated from the choir conducting faculty of the Music Academy and 1997, obtained his conductors diploma, having studied with Professor Ervin Lukács. He attended three of Yuri Simonov's famous conducting masterclasses (Budapest 1993, Miskolc 1994, 1996) and also Helmuth Rilling's famous Stuttgart masterclass in 1996 and 1997.
