The Musicians of the Louvre know Bach well, having recorded The Passion according to Saint John (the CD has just been released by Warner/Errato).
The composer will be particularly honored this season since the Orchestra devotes 5 programs to him, including this Christmas Oratorio.
Bach wrote it in 1734. While a cantor in Liepzig, he composed sacred music for the parish.
This piece comprises six cantatas: three celebrate Christmas, one the New Year, the other the first Sunday of the year and the last the Epiphany.
The lyrics are taken from the Gospels, the Old Testament and various authors including Luther.

Les Musiciens du Louvre connaissent bien Bach dont ils ont enregistré La Passion selon saint Jean (le CD vient de sortir chez Warner/ Errato).
Le compositeur sera particulièrement à l’honneur cette saison puisque l’Orchestre lui consacre 5 programmes parmi lesquels cet Oratorio de Noël.
Bach l’écrit en 1734. Alors cantor à Liepzig, il compose de la musique sacrée pour la paroisse.
Cette pièce comprend six cantates : trois célèbrent les fêtes de Noël, une, le nouvel an, l’autre, le premier dimanche de l’année et la dernière, l’Épiphanie.
Les paroles sont extraites des Évangiles, de l’Ancien Testament et de divers auteurs dont Luther.
