Vivaldi lived a rock star life in the 18th century. He had many love affairs, traveled the world and made innovative music that made him immensely popular with a large audience. One of his biggest fans was Johann Sebastian Bach. In this Italian program around three of Vivaldi's concertos, in which cellist Harriet Krijgh plays a starring role, we travel hundreds of years in time. Contemporary Italian composers Fedele and Gervasoni made a leap to the Renaissance. Although they go back to works by Gesualdo and Frescobaldi, they produced something completely new. With Merula, the most progressive composer of his time, we arrive in the early Baroque. The Holberg Suiteby Grieg, written in a neoclassical style, is a collection of dances from Vivaldi's time. After the concert you walk out the door with Vivaldi.

Vivaldi leidde een leven als een rockster in de 18e eeuw. Hij had vele liefdesaffaires, reisde de wereld over en maakte vernieuwende muziek waarmee hij immens populair was bij een groot publiek. Een van zijn grootste fans was Johann Sebastian Bach. In dit Italiaanse programma rond drie van Vivaldi’s concerten, waarin celliste Harriet Krijgh een glansrol vertolkt, reizen we honderden jaren in de tijd. De hedendaagse Italiaanse componisten Fedele en Gervasoni maakten een sprong naar de Renaissance. Weliswaar teruggrijpend op werken van Gesualdo en Frescobaldi, produceerden zij toch iets volkomen nieuws. Met Merula, de meest vooruitstrevende componist van zijn tijd, belanden we in de vroege barok. De Holberg Suite van Grieg, geschreven in neoklassieke stijl, is een verzameling dansen uit de tijd van Vivaldi. Na het concert loopt u met Vivaldi de deur uit.
