Venus and Adonis  is a small operatic gem by John Blow with a simple story borrowed from Ovid's  Metamorphoses  as a reflection on love. 

 The piece, interspersed with dances, choral pieces and interludes, is built around the characters Venus, Adonis and Cupid. Venus and Adonis  will be the starting point for Muziektheater Transparant's new youth opera. About 30 young singers and instrumentalists prepare an idiosyncratic version of this piece in a short and intensive rehearsal period. The musical direction is in the hands of Nicolas Achten, who was previously involved in the youth  opera L'Orfeo. He is assisted by the Polish Baroque violinist Marcin Lasia. For the scenic interpretation, Transparant will be collaborating with the Tilburg Danshuis Station Zuid. In addition to singers and instrumentalists, dancers are also invited to participate this time. The stage concept and choreography are in the hands of the Israeli choreographer Itamar Serussi. It will be an extremely fascinating project in which the boundaries between opera and dance will be explored.

Venus and Adonis is een klein operapareltje van John Blow met een eenvoudig verhaal dat ontleend werd aan Ovidius’ Metamorfosen als bespiegeling over de liefde. 
 Het met dansen, koorstukken en tussenspelen doorspekte stuk is opgebouwd rond de personages Venus, Adonis en Cupido. Venus and Adonis wordt het uitgangspunt voor de nieuwe jongerenopera van Muziektheater Transparant. Een 30-tal jonge zangers en instrumentalisten bereiden in een korte en intensieve repetitieperiode een eigenzinnige versie van dit stuk voor. De muzikale leiding is in handen van Nicolas Achten, die eerder al betrokken was bij de jongerenopera L’Orfeo. Hij wordt bijgestaan door de Poolse barokviolist Marcin Lasia. Voor de scenische invulling gaat Transparant een samenwerking aan met het Tilburgse Danshuis Station Zuid.Naast zangers en instrumentalisten worden deze keer ook dansers uitgenodigd om te participeren. Het scenisch concept en de choreografie zijn in handen van de Israëlische choreograaf Itamar Serussi. Het wordt een uitermate boeiend project waarin de grenzen tussen opera en dans worden onderzocht.
