L’âme slave : pur fantasme ou expression d’une émotion perceptible ? Accompagné par la mezzo-soprano Albane Carrère, le jeune Trio Hélios relève le pari d’un programme consacré à l’Est. Des figures tutélaires, celles de Dvořák et de Chostakovitch, dialoguent avec d’autres à redécouvrir : le Russe Anton Arensky, prématurément emporté en 1906 et le Tchèque Vítězslav Novák, qui fut l’élève favori de Dvořák. Poésie et musique, chant populaire et genres savants : le rapprochement de ces quatre compositeurs dévoile un sens de l’émotion, une gravité tragique que guette l’humour noir. De l’expression d’une jeune nation à la mélancolie d’une enfance perdue, les Chansons tziganes de Dvořák, composées à l’orée des années 1880, empruntent autant au chant populaire qu’à la mélodie de salon. Lorsqu’en 1967, Chostakovitch s’empare des textes d’Alexandre Blok, écrivain fulgurant disparu aux premiers temps de la révolution bolchevique, il transpose une poésie mystique et visionnaire. Les images fulgurantes de ce pionnier de la modernité littéraire électrisent l’imagination du musicien vieillissant rappelant combien, pour Chostakovitch, la musique de chambre fut un refuge face aux hostilités du pouvoir soviétique. Deux trios prolongent ces cycles lyriques : au ton élégiaque du Trio d’Arensky (1894) répond la flamme de l’œuvre de Novak (1902).

The Slavic soul: pure fantasy or the expression of a perceptible emotion? Accompanied by the mezzo-soprano Albane Carrère, the young Trio Hélios takes up the challenge of a program devoted to the East. Tutelary figures, those of Dvořák and Shostakovich, converse with others to be rediscovered: the Russian Anton Arensky, prematurely carried away in 1906 and the Czech Vítězslav Novák, who was Dvořák's favorite pupil. Poetry and music, popular song and scholarly genres: the bringing together of these four composers reveals a sense of emotion, a tragic seriousness that dark humor awaits. From the expression of a young nation to the melancholy of a lost childhood, Les Chansons tziganesby Dvořák, composed at the dawn of the 1880s, borrow as much from popular song as from salon melody. When in 1967, Shostakovich took over the texts of Alexander Blok, a dazzling writer who died in the early days of the Bolshevik revolution, he transposed a mystical and visionary poetry. The dazzling images of this pioneer of literary modernity electrify the imagination of the aging musician, recalling how much, for Shostakovich, chamber music was a refuge from the hostilities of the Soviet power. Two trios extend these lyrical cycles: the elegiac tone of Arensky's Trio (1894) responds with the flame of Novak's work (1902).
