El compositor, Giacomo Puccini, con libreto de Luigi Illica y Giuseppe Giacosa, estrenó en enero de 1900, en Roma, la ópera en tres actos La Tosca, que conjuntamente con Madame Butterfly y La Bohème, forma parte del terceto de óperas más populares del músico italiano. El argumento, se articula a partir de las vicisitudes de la fuga de Angelotti, ex cónsul de la República de Roma, y de los personajes de su amigo pintor Mario Cavaradossi que le acoge y le da refugio y de la protagonista principal, Floria Tosca, de quien el pintor está enamorado, una chica, en un principio despreocupada y frívola, pero que con un rol que se agrandará a medida que avanza obra, convirtiéndose en la verdadera heroína de la historia. El otro personaje principal es Scarpia, el sádico y siniestro jefe de la policía de Roma, que quiere seducir como sea a Tosca, y no duda en valerse de su posición para hacerlo, amenazándola con ajusticiar a Cavaradossi, si no cede a sus pretensiones. Ella llena de rabia, le clava un cuchillo y lo mata. Desesperada por lo que acaba de hacer y creyendo, además, que su amante ha sido ajusticiado, sube a una torre de la muralla y se echa de arriba abajo. En definitiva, un melodrama trágico ambientado en una atmósfera asfixiante de dudas, sospechas y falsedades.   El espectáculo La representación de la ópera Tosca supone la consolidación del proyecto iniciado en el Camp de Mart, en junio de 2021, con la representación de Rigoletto. Un proyecto que quiere aproximar la ópera a nuevos públicos presentando unos planteamientos escénicos más atrevidos, sin menospreciar la fidelidad a la música y a los libretos originales, y que quiere situar a Tarragona en el mapa de la producción cultural de Cataluña. Dada la espectacularidad y el novedoso planteamiento artístico, la Tarraco Arena es sin duda, el mejor mar escénico por la representación de esta Tosca, 120 minutos por el mayor espectáculo de ópera que se haya visto en Tarragona. Tosca es un proyecto de territorio, y por eso se ha constituido expresamente por la representación el Coro de la Ópera de Tarragona que será dirigido por Montse Ríos; la Orquesta de la Ópera de Tarragona que bajo la guía de Camerata XXI, formación musical compuesta por músicos profesionales de todo el ámbito territorial de Tarragona, y que será dirigida por el gran maestro de reconocido prestigio internacional, Oliver Díaz. En lo alto del escenario, tendremos las voces de Vanessa Goikoetxea como Floria Tosca, Alejandro Roy como Mario Cavaradossi, Ángel Odena como barone Scarpia, en los roles principales, y también Stefano Palatchi como Cesare Angelotti, Albert Casals como Spoletta, Enric Martínez Castignani como el sacristán, Quim Cornet como Sciarrone, Emili Gispert como el carcelero y Xavier Casademunt como el Pastor.

The show The representation of the opera Tosca is the consolidation of the project initiated in the Camp de Mart, in June 2021, with the representation of Rigoletto. A project that wants to bring opera to new audiences by presenting a more daring scenic approaches, without underestimating the fidelity to the music and the original librettos, and wants to put Tarragona on the map of cultural production in Catalonia. Given the spectacular and innovative artistic approach, the Tarraco Arena is undoubtedly the best scenic sea for the representation of this Tosca, 120 minutes for the biggest opera show ever seen in Tarragona.
