In een tijd dat poolexpedities nog heldenmoed vereisten en ruimtereizen alleen maar in de verbeelding bestonden, schreven Vaughan Williams en Holst hun grote muzikale vergezichten. The Planets neemt ons mee op reis door het zonnestelsel; de Sinfonia Antarctica – vrijwel nooit in de concertzaal te horen, maar volstrekt geniaal, aldus Tarmo Peltokoski – toont de ongenaakbare schoonheid van de Zuidpool. Oogverblindend.

At a time when polar expeditions still required heroism and space travel existed only in the imagination, Vaughan Williams and Holst wrote their great musical vistas. The Planets takes us on a journey through the solar system; the Sinfonia Antarctica - almost never heard in the concert hall, but utterly brilliant, according to Tarmo Peltokoski - shows the unapproachable beauty of the South Pole.
