Tamerlanois one of Handel's most successful world premieres in London. The work about love, power and politics turns out to be a real thriller that has lost none of its impact to this day. Musically, the opera is one of the most progressive and colorful Handel: in the balanced interplay of recitative, arioso moments and wide-ranging arias and ensembles, the composer achieves a deeply moving emotionality.
