The audience of the Munich Philharmonic has been able to convince themselves of Barbara Hannigan's versatility several times: In this concert she sings a scene that Francis Poulenc composed in 1958 for just such an exceptional singer. "La Voix humaine" was the first telephone scene in music history. We do not hear the dialogue partner because he is on the other end of the line. He seems to have broken up with the woman, so she is unhappy. Does she want to kill herself or is she just putting him under pressure? At times the suspicion arises that it doesn't even exist. A thriller like Hitchcock's! In the first half of the concert, Barbara Hannigan will conduct the grandiose »Metamorphoses« about the funeral march of Beethoven's »Eroica« by Richard Strauss. He composed this intensive study for 23 solo strings under the impression of the destruction of his hometown Munich by the war instigated by Hitler and in memory of all the music venues that lay in ruins. Both works are connected via a scenic-media staging and once again show the room acoustics and technical possibilities of the new Isarphilharmonie.
