From the Salzburg Festival: The Stabat Mater for four soloists, choir and orchestra by Gioachino Rossini (1792-1868); before that the symphony in D major Hob. I:104 by Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) will be heard.

"The Great Festival Hall was occupied down to the last of the additional chairs set up in the orchestra pit. Watching Netrebko was the order of the day. The hand-picked solo quartet, which harmonized perfectly in terms of vocal sound and voice quality, showed itself from its best side, with the artists not behaving like stars, but in brilliant performances in intensive dialogues" (Der Standard).

Rossini's "Stabat Mater" is not a sad, meditative lament of the mother Maria at the sight of her son's suffering, but combines opera and church music in a lively and effective way.
