Eine »Synthese von Oper, Sinfonie und Kammermusik« nennt Sir András Schiff Mozarts Klavierkonzerte. Das gilt insbesondere für das späte A-Dur-Konzert – entstanden 1785 nach dem plötzlich unterbrochenen »Klavierkonzert-Rausch«. Erst die Arbeit am »Figaro« löste die Blockade und führte zu groß besetzten Werken, in denen erstmals die Klarinette ins Orchester eingebunden wurde. Zudem ist KV 488 das einzige Konzert mit einem ausdrücklich langsamen Mittelsatz: Dem Adagio hört man die Nähe zur Opernarie zweifellos an. Bachs Orchestersuite Nr. 3 mit dem berühmten Air und Mendelssohns »Italienische« rahmen das Solokonzert ein.

Sir András Schiff calls Mozart's piano concertos a “synthesis of opera, symphony and chamber music”. This applies in particular to the late A major concerto – composed in 1785 after the suddenly interrupted “piano concert frenzy”. It was only when he was working on »Figaro« that the blockade was resolved and led to large-scale works in which the clarinet was integrated into the orchestra for the first time. In addition, KV 488 is the only concerto with an expressly slow middle movement: the proximity to the operatic aria can undoubtedly be heard in the Adagio. Bach's Orchestral Suite No. 3 with the famous Air and Mendelssohn's "Italian" frame the solo concerto.
