Ole Lund Kirkegaard’s beloved tales – with music and songs by Laus Høybye 

Imagine if the kids in Ole Lund Kirkegaard’s books all lived in the same house – the corner house. This would be where Topper, his friend Viggo and Ivan Olsen live with their families, gossip aunt and doorman. And wheeling around the house would be Topper’s halfway-girlfriend, Sille. 

On the ground floor, Café Den Blå Havkat is up for sale, and the Hodja family is about to move in. Hodja’s father wants to open a tailor shop, because he wishes his son to become a tailor like himself. But Hodja would rather travel the world on his flying carpet. And Ivan up in his attic apartment just wants to be himself – not a real man like his father thinks he should become.

On the second floor, Topper draws a rhinoceros on the wallpaper with a magic pencil. The rhino soon threatens to break the floorboards, while a tall guy named Orla Frøsnapper sneaks around the corners of the building. He has an eye for Hodja’s magical flying carpet. The Brats in the Corner House pays tribute to Ole Lund Kirkegaard and his dedication to children’s wild sense of adventure and unbridled imagination. 

The play is based on a number of Kirkegaard’s most-loved children’s books, including Otto is a Rhino, Orla Frøsnapper, Rubber Tarzan and Hodja from Pjort.

The Brats in the Corner House is performed in Danish.

Ole Lund Kirkegaards elskede historier - med musik og sange af Laus Høybye

Tænk, hvis børnene fra Ole Lund Kirkegaards bøger boede i det samme hus – hjørnehuset. Her bor Topper, hans ven Viggo og Ivan Olsen med deres familier, kaffetante og vicevært, og rundt om huset hjuler Toppers halvkæreste, Sille, forbi.

I stueetagen er Café Den Blå Havkat til salg, og familien Hodja er på vej til at flytte ind. Far Hodja vil åbne et skrædderi, for hans søn skal være skrædder ligesom sin far. Men Hodja vil hellere ud at se hele verden på sit flyvende tæppe. Og Ivan på kvisten vil bare gerne være sig selv – ikke et rigtigt mandfolk, som hans far synes, han skal være.

På anden sal tegner Topper et næsehorn på tapetet med en magisk blyant. Næsehornet truer snart hjørnehusets gulvbrædder, og en lang bølle ved navn Orla Frøsnapper sniger sig om hushjørnerne. Han har fået færten af Hodjas vidunderlige, flyvende tæppe.

Rødderne i hjørnehuset er en hyldest til Ole Lund Kirkegaard og hans tro på børns løsslupne eventyrlyst og betingelsesløse fantasi. Forestillingen er baseret på en række af Kirkegaards mest elskede børnebøger herunder Otto er et næsehorn, Orla Frøsnapper, Gummi-Tarzan samt Hodja fra Pjort.
