Conductor Felix Korobov, Stage Director Vladimir Pankov, Set and Costume Designer Maxim Obrezkov tell about "Rigoletto" by G. Verdi

Rigoletto is one of the most popular operas in the world repertoire. Each season brings premieres on the stages of the world's leading theaters. The work, created in the middle of the 19th century, remains alive and relevant in all eras. The vivid images of the main characters, the plot full of drama and the ingenious music of Verdi attract both sophisticated spectators and those who go to the opera house for the first time.

New production at the Musical Theatre. K.S. Stanislavsky and Vl.I. Nemirovich-Danchenko was performed by Vladimir Pankov, artistic director of the Center for Drama and Directing, founder of the SounDrama Theater. This is the first appeal to the genre of opera by the director, known for his unexpected experiments in the synthesis of musical and dramatic art. He worked with his regular collaborators - artist Maxim Obrezkov and choreographer Ekaterina Kislova. The musical director of the production is the chief conductor of the theater Felix Korobov. Opera soloists, ballet dancers, choir and mimamse performers take part in the performance.

Says the director of the opera Vladimir Pankov :

“For me, the Rigoletto genre is a scary tale. On the one hand, Verdi's music is bubbling champagne; on the other hand, we have before us a real thriller, detective, horror, gangster story.

We argued a lot with artist Maxim Obrezkov about how this story should look like. In the end, there were two images that are important for our production - a mirror and a mask. A mirror is a perfect portal to another world. And the mask is Italy, a reference to old Italian productions. Modern costumes coexist with masks. The performance is built on the combination of these temporary poles. There is a combination of modern and archaic theater.

«Риголетто» принадлежит к числу наиболее популярных опер мирового репертуара. Каждый сезон приносит премьеры на сценах ведущих театров мира. Произведение, созданное в середине XIX века, остается живым и актуальным во все эпохи. Яркие образы главных героев, полный драматизма сюжет и гениальная музыка Верди привлекают как искушенных зрителей, так и тех, кто идет в оперный театр впервые.

Новую постановку в Музыкальном театре им. К.С. Станиславского и Вл.И. Немировича-Данченко осуществил Владимир Панков – художественный руководитель Центра драматургии и режиссуры, основатель театра «SounDrama». Это первое обращение к жанру оперы режиссера, известного своими неожиданными опытами синтеза музыкального и драматического искусства. Он работал со своими постоянными соавторами – художником Максимом Обрезковым и хореографом Екатериной Кисловой. Музыкальный руководитель постановки – главный дирижер театра Феликс Коробов. В спектакле принимают участие солисты оперы, артисты балета, хора и миманса.

Говорит режиссер-постановщик оперы Владимир Панков:

«Для меня жанр «Риголетто» – «страшная сказка». С одной стороны, музыка Верди – это бурлящее шампанское; c другой стороны – перед нами настоящий триллер, детектив, хоррор, бандитская история.

Мы много спорили с художником Максимом Обрезковым о том, как должна выглядеть эта история. В конце концов возникли два образа, важных для нашей постановки – зеркало и маска. Зеркало – это совершенный портал в другой мир. А маска – это Италия, отсылка к старым итальянским постановкам. С масками соседствуют современные костюмы. На сочетании этих временных полюсов и строится спектакль. Происходит соединение современного и архаического театра».
