Qualifiée de « musikalische Komödie » par son auteur, la dernière œuvre de Lehár se rapproche bien plus des grands opéras de Puccini que des comédies musicales américaines, comme en témoigne sa création en grande pompe au Staatsoper de Vienne en 1934. Si Giuditta n’est pas sans rappeler certaines héroïnes lyriques (Carmen, Violetta, Mélisande) et quelques célèbres courtisanes bien réelles (notamment la « Belle Otero », danseuse espagnole devenue l’amante des souverains européens), elle doit beaucoup à Marlène Dietrich et à ses rôles iconiques de meneuse de revue dans les films L’Ange bleu et Morocco. À la tête de l’Orchestre symphonique de Mulhouse, Thomas Rösner dirige la version française de cette envoûtante rareté, dans un spectacle flamboyant de Pierre-André Weitz inspiré par les univers du cirque et du cabaret.

Described as a “musikalische Komödie” by its author, Lehár's latest work is much closer to the great operas of Puccini than to American musicals, as evidenced by its premiere with great fanfare at the Vienna Staatsoper in 1934. If Giuditta is not not unlike certain lyrical heroines (Carmen, Violetta, Mélisande) and some famous very real courtesans (notably the “Belle Otero”, a Spanish dancer who became the lover of European sovereigns), she owes a lot to Marlène Dietrich and her iconic roles as leader of the revue in the films The Blue Angel and Morocco. At the head of the Mulhouse Symphony Orchestra, Thomas Rösner conducts the French version of this captivating rarity, in a flamboyant show by Pierre-André Weitz inspired by the worlds of circus and cabaret.
