After the Scenes from Faust, Daniel Harding continues his homage to Schumann through one of his most radient works, an adaptation for orchestra choir and soloists of an oriental tale, which allows us the pleasue of hearing the great Matthias Goerne.

Après les Scènes de Faust, Daniel Harding poursuit son hommage à Schumann, à travers un de ses ouvrages les plus lumineux. Le Paradis et la Péri est une adaptation pour orchestre, chœur et solistes d’un conte oriental, qui nous vaut la présence du grand Matthias Goerne.

Un joyau du romantisme, sorte de conte des Mille et une Nuits chatoyant et magique. Inspiré d’une légende persane, il met en scène un esprit de l’air, la Péri, qui, pour trouver sa place au Paradis, doit rapporter successivement le sang d’un héros, le soupir d’une jeune fille et les larmes d’un criminel repenti. Schumann se mit avec enthousiasme à l’écriture de ce qui devait être un opéra mais prit rapidement la forme d’un oratorio profane. Familier de cet ouvrage, Daniel Harding en exalte la pureté céleste et le lyrisme intense.
