Utwory, które znalazły się w programie dzisiejszego koncertu, łączy zaskakujący trop – prowadzący za ocean, do Stanów Zjednoczonych. Rękopis Uwertury Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel być może do dziś obrastałby kurzem w berlińskim archiwum, gdyby nie wydobyła go stamtąd Judith Rosen – członkini zarządu The Women’s Philharmonic z San Francisco, co w 1992 roku zaowocowało pierwszym nagraniem tej wdzięcznej kompozycji. Nad Koncertem fortepianowym G-dur Maurice Ravel pracował z przerwami, m.in. na opracowanie Koncertu D-dur zleconego mu przez Paula Wittgensteina – pianistę, który stracił prawą rękę na Wielkiej Wojnie. Słychać w nim inspirację muzyką Basków i amerykańskim jazzem.

Do międzynarodowego sukcesu Rapsodii hiszpańskiej przyczynił się walnie koncert Nowojorczyków w 1909 roku, pod batutą Waltera Damroscha, zorganizowany zaledwie rok po paryskiej premierze utworu. Métaboles Henriego Dutilleux powstały na czterdziestolecie Cleveland Orchestra i jej ówczesnego szefa George’a Szella. Na tym powinowactwa się kończą: zaczyna się fascynująca przeprawa przez ocean różnorodnych stylów i koncepcji muzycznych.

The pieces included in the program of today's concert are connected by a surprising track - leading across the ocean, to the United States. The manuscript of the Fanny Mendelssohn-Hensel Overture might still be gathering dust in the Berlin archives if it hadn't been brought out by Judith Rosen, a board member of The Women's Philharmonic in San Francisco, which in 1992 resulted in the first recording of this graceful composition. Maurice Ravel worked intermittently on the Piano Concerto in G major , e.g. for the arrangement of the Concerto in D major commissioned by Paul Wittgenstein – a pianist who lost his right arm in the Great War. It is inspired by Basque music and American jazz.

The international success of Spanish Rhapsody was largely contributed to by the New Yorkers' concert in 1909, conducted by Walter Damrosch, organized only a year after the Paris premiere of the work. Henri Dutilleux's Métaboles was written to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Cleveland Orchestra and its then head George Szell. This is where the affinities end: a fascinating journey through the ocean of diverse musical styles and concepts begins
