Niczym nieusprawiedliwiony atak Rosji na terytorium i naród Ukrainy wstrząsnął Europą i światem. Codziennością stały się płynące z mediów i z relacji zrozpaczonych uchodźców przerażające obrazy krwawego konfliktu rozgrywającego się tuż za wschodnią granicą Polski. Solidaryzując się z wyczekującymi upragnionej wolności Ukraińcami, Artyści Polskiej Opery Królewskiej szukają pokrzepienia w muzyce Wolfganga Amadeusza Mozarta, by poprzez jego dzieła snuć refleksję o istocie poświęcenia w imię wyższych wartości i sensie ludzkiego cierpienia.

W realizacji wykorzystane zostały trzy przejmujące kompozycje słynnego Wiedeńczyka. Spektakl otwiera wzniosłe, skłaniające do zadumy Kyrie KV 341 – kompozycja utrzymana w żałobnej tonacji d-moll powstała w ostatnich latach życia Mistrza. Następnie zabrzmi niezwykle ekspresyjne Maurerische Trauermusik KV 477, pogrzebowy utwór napisany latem 1785 roku. Sercem spektaklu jest kantata Davide penitente, która stanowi szczególny rodzaj wtórnego opracowania własnego wcześniejszego dzieła. Mozart nie tyle zainspirował się już wcześniej wykorzystanym fragmentem, co dosłownie przekopiował muzykę z dwóch uprzednio ukończonych części mszalnych (Kyrie i Gloria z Mszy c-moll KV 427). Dodał do nich jednak nową treść oraz uzupełnił o dwie arie i finałową kadencję. Łaciński tekst liturgii wykorzystany w pierwowzorze zastąpiły włoskie parafrazy biblijnych psalmów Dawidowych, niosące nadzieję na to, że smutek, strach i rozpacz zostaną przezwyciężone przez pokój i światłość.

Russia’s unjustified attack on the territory and people of Ukraine shocked Europe and the entire world. Every day, we watch the terrifying images of the bloody conflict taking place just over the eastern border of Poland painted by the media and the accounts of despairing refugees. In solidarity with the Ukrainians who longingly await their freedom, the Artists of the Polish Royal Opera seek consolation in the brilliant music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, to reflect through his works on the essence of sacrifice in the name of higher values ​​and the deeper meaning of human suffering.

The concert presents three moving compositions of the famous Viennese. The performance opens with the sublime, thought-provoking Kyrie KV 341 – a composition in the mournful key of D minor, created in the last years of the Master’s life. It will be followed by the uniquely expressive Maurerische Trauermusik KV 477, a funeral piece written in the summer of 1785. The heart of the performance is the cantata Davide penitente, which is a special kind of re-elaboration of Mozart’s own earlier work. The composer was not so much inspired by the fragments already used, but literally copied the music from the two previously completed mass movements (Kyrie and Gloria from Mass in C minor, KV 427). However, he added new musical content and supplemented them with two arias and the final cadenza. The Latin text of the liturgy used in the original work was replaced by Italian paraphrases of the biblical David psalms, bringing hope that sorrow, fear and despair will be overcome by peace and light.
