Mozart wrote many sacred works, but the two greatest are undoubtedly the Requiem and the C minor Mass even though both are incomplete. The ‘Great Mass’ is on a large scale, but it is a torso, lacking its Agnus Dei and parts of its Credo, and we have no idea why he never finished it. Yet it is a stupendous masterpiece and we can expect John Butt and his Dunedin forces to approach it with their customary insight and creative brilliance. This evening’s cast is led by two stellar sopranos in Lucy Crowe and Anna Dennis.
