As he did last season with Obabakoak and Bernardo Atxaga, Calixto Bieito once again faces the challenge of staging a great work by a top-level Basque author, in what will be one of the great productions of the Arriaga Theater in the season. It is the lyrical jewel Mendi-Mendiyan , one of the great compositions of José María Usandizaga.

Mendi-Mendiyan was the first lyrical work of Usandizaga, an opera commissioned by the Bilbao Choral Society in 1909 and premiered on May 21, 1910 at the Campos Eliseos Theater, with enormous success. The first performance in the Arriaga Theater that is recorded is at the end of May 1911. In more recent times, the last staging of the work in the Arriaga Theater was held in 1987. Years later, in 2001, it was performed another version, but in concert format. Now, as the culmination of the 2018-2019 season, the public will be able to enjoy Calixto Bieito's look at this great work.
