Médée

The Medea opera is one of the masterpieces of French opera art at the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. Its author is Luigi Cherubini, one of the founders of the Paris Conservatory, a composer whom Beethoven called the best among his contemporaries, a witness and chronicler of the French Revolution. He created a work comparable in scale to the ancient Greek myth taken as a basis. Medea by Cherubini, which is one of the greatest operatic tragedies, requires vocal skills and bright acting talent from the performers.

In the middle of the 20th century, Cherubini's Medea experienced a rebirth thanks to Maria Callas. The role of Medea performed by Callas became a legend of the opera stage, and since then special requirements have been imposed on the performers of the title role. One of the reasons for the appeal of the Musical Theater. Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko to Cherubini's opera was the presence in the troupe of two singers with a strong and expressive voice and a bright stage personality. The role of Medea is performed by the world famous soprano Khibla Gerzmava and one of the brightest stars of the Moscow opera scene Natalia Muradymova.

At the Musical Theatre, Medea is performed in Italian translation by Carlo Zangarini with recitatives by Franz Lachner.

Опера «Медея» принадлежит к числу шедевров французского оперного искусства рубежа XVIII – XIX веков. Ее автор – Луиджи Керубини, один из основателей Парижской консерватории, композитор, которого Бетховен называл лучшим среди своих современников, свидетель и летописец Великой французской революции. Он создал произведение, сравнимое по масштабу со взятым за основу древнегреческим мифом. «Медея» Керубини, входящая в число величайших оперных трагедий, требует от исполнителей вокального мастерства и яркого актерского таланта.

В середине XX века «Медея» Керубини пережила второе рождение благодаря Марии Каллас. Роль Медеи в исполнении Каллас стала легендой оперной сцены, и с тех пор к исполнительницам заглавной партии предъявляются особые требования. Одной из причин обращения Музыкального театра им. Станиславского и Немировича-Данченко к опере Керубини стало присутствие в труппе двух певиц, обладающих сильным и выразительным голосом и яркой сценической индивидуальностью. Роль Медеи исполняют всемирно известная сопрано Хибла Герзмава и одна из наиболее ярких звезд московской оперной сцены Наталья Мурадымова.

В Музыкальном театре «Медея» звучит в итальянском переводе Карло Дзангарини с речитативами Франца Лахнера.
