The Trumpets of the Apocalypse. An organ. A gigantic symphony orchestra and a choir take center stage. But also backstage instruments, bells, soloists. It takes no less to perform Mahler's monumental Second Symphony . The size of the workforce betrays the ambition of the message: neither deprivation, nor adversity, nor misery, nor fear, nor even death will have the last word. Human beings are capable of surpassing themselves and triumphing over their mortal condition. 

From the dark march of the first movement to the euphoric ecstasy of the final chorus, this so-called " Resurrection " symphony transports you for an hour and a half to the firmament of the post-romantic repertoire. Performed under the baton of our musical director Alain Altinoglu, this work will give the majestic kick-off to the Mahler cycle that the Orchester symphonique de la Monnaie, the Belgian National Orchestra and Bozar will jointly present in Brussels over two seasons.

Les trompettes de l’Apocalypse. Un orgue. Un gigantesque orchestre symphonique et un chœur sur le devant de la scène. Mais aussi des instruments en coulisse, des cloches, des solistes. Il n’en faut pas moins pour exécuter la monumentale Deuxième Symphonie de Mahler. L’ampleur des effectifs trahit l’ambition du message : ni les privations, ni l’adversité, ni la misère, ni la peur, ni même la mort n’auront le dernier mot. L’être humain est capable de se surpasser et de triompher de sa condition de mortel. 

De la sombre marche du premier mouvement à l’extase euphorique du chœur final, cette symphonie dite de la « Résurrection » vous transporte pendant une heure et demie au firmament du répertoire postromantique. Exécutée sous la baguette de notre directeur musical Alain Altinoglu, cette œuvre donnera le majestueux coup d’envoi au cycle Mahler que l’Orchestre symphonique de la Monnaie, le Belgian National Orchestre et Bozar présenteront conjointement à Bruxelles sur deux saisons.
