Avec son voyage dans la Lune sur un boulet de canon, ou sa sortie des sables mouvants et celle de son cheval en se soulevant par les cheveux, le Baron de Münchhausen fait partie du patrimoine germanique. Il est devenu un personnage légendaire comme notre Cyrano de Bergerac ou le Sapeur Camembert en France.

C’est une œuvre universelle, une grande fantaisie extrêmement drôle, qui fait appel à l’âme d’enfant et au besoin de transgression présents en chacun de nous. J’ai envie pour illustrer ces aventures, de réitérer la réussite de L’Opéra Imaginaire pour lequel nous avions reconstruit un opéra en deux actes à partir d’une trentaine d’ouvrages d’auteurs différents. La musique de la Régence, de Philippe d’Orléans jusqu’au début du règne de Louis XV, formerait, entre autres, un support musical assez formidable pour illustrer et réinventer l’histoire du Baron. J’imagine l’histoire commentée avec truculence par un comédien et mise en musique par les meilleurs compositeurs baroques, interprétées par une vingtaine d’artistes de la troupe du Concert Spirituel. Un rêve de grand gosse devenu réalité.

With his trip to the moon on a cannonball, or his exit from quicksand and that of his horse by lifting himself by the hair, the Baron of Münchhausen is part of the Germanic heritage. He has become a legendary figure like our Cyrano de Bergerac or the Sapeur Camembert in France.

It is a universal work, an extremely funny great fantasy, which appeals to the soul of a child and to the need for transgression present in each of us. I want to illustrate these adventures, to reiterate the success of The Imaginary Opera for which we had reconstructed an opera in two acts from around thirty works by different authors. The music of the Regency, from Philippe d'Orléans until the beginning of the reign of Louis XV, would form, among other things, a rather formidable musical medium to illustrate and reinvent the history of the Baron. I imagine the story brilliantly commented on by an actor and set to music by the best Baroque composers, performed by around twenty artists from the Concert Spirituel troupe. A big kid's dream come true.
