During the Lenten concert, performed by the Choir and Orchestra of the Opera at the Castle, we will hear   Charles Gounod's Stabat Mater and Dan Forrest's Requiem for the Living .

The medieval Stabat Mater sequence , introduced by the Catholic Church to the liturgy and performed during Lent, has inspired artists for centuries. This topic was also taken up by the French composer Charles Gounod. His fascination with the work of the masters of the past - Johann Sebastian Bach or Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart - was reflected in his interest in religious music. Written in 1867, Stabat Mater is a little-known one-movement work for mixed choir, orchestra and organ with a dedication in the score "to my friend Hector Berlioz". 

Requiem for the Livingcomposed in 2013 by Dan Forrest, an American composer of the young generation, is considered one of the greatest musical works of the 21st century. Forrest used ingenious rhythmic solutions in the composition and introduced innovative and surprising changes, e.g. he intertwined the Latin texts with quotations from the Old Testament and passages in English. The composition constituting a kind of prayer for peace and respite for the living and the dead is supposed to bring relief to the pain, grief and sadness that consume modern man. Full of dynamism, the song impresses with its optimistic and joyful melody. One of the fragments of the Requiem - Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria tua ( The heavens and the earth are full of your glory) is inspired by images from the Hubble Space Telescope.

Na koncert wielkopostny w wykonaniu Chóru i Orkiestry Opery na Zamku złożą się dwa utwory: Stabat Mater Charlesa Gounoda oraz Requiem for the Living Dana Forresta.

Średniowieczna sekwencja Stabat Mater wprowadzona przez Kościół katolicki do liturgii i wykonywana w czasie wielkiego postu od wieków inspiruje artystów. Temat ten podjął również francuski kompozytor Charles Gounod. Jego fascynacja twórczością mistrzów przeszłości – Jana Sebastian Bacha czy Wolfganga Amadeusza Mozarta znalazły swoje odbicie w zainteresowaniu muzyką religijną. Powstałe w 1867 r. Stabat Mater to mało znany, jednoczęściowy utwór na chór mieszany, orkiestrę i organy z dedykacją na partyturze „dla mojego przyjaciela Hectora Berlioza”. 

Requiem for the Living skomponowane w 2013 r. przez Dana Forresta – amerykańskiego kompozytora młodego pokolenia, uznawane jest za jedno z największych dzieł muzycznych XXI wieku. Forrest zastosował w kompozycji pomysłowe rozwiązania rytmiczne oraz wprowadził innowacyjne i zaskakujące zmiany, m.in. w łacińskie teksty wplótł mszalne cytaty i fragmenty ze Starego Testamentu w języku angielskim. Kompozycja stanowiąca rodzaj modlitwy o pokój oraz wytchnienie dla żyjących i zmarłych ma przynieść ukojenie dla bólu, żalu i smutku trawiącego współczesnego człowieka. Pełen dynamizmu utwór zachwyca optymistyczną i radosną melodyką. Jeden z fragmentów Requiem – Pleni sunt caeli et terra gloria tua (Pełne są niebiosa i ziemia chwały Twojej) inspirowany jest obrazami z Kosmicznego Teleskopu Hubble'a.
