Graf Almaviva lacht sich ins Fäustchen: Er erlaubt seinem Kammerdiener Figaro, die Zofe Susanna zu heiraten und quartiert die beiden großzügig neben seinem Schlafzimmer ein – um der hübschen Susanna besser nachsteigen zu können. Den Pagen Cherubino, der ebenfalls ständig um die Frauen herumscharwenzelt, räumt er kurzerhand aus dem Weg, indem er ihn zum Militär schickt. Aber er hat die Rechnung nicht nur ohne Susanna und den eifersüchtigen Figaro, sondern vor allem ohne seine Frau, die Gräfin, gemacht.

Vorlage zu Mozarts Oper von 1786 war die wenige Jahre zuvor uraufgeführte Komödie »La folle journée ou Le mariage de Figaro«, die zum größten Bühnenerfolg ihres Autors Beaumarchais wurde. Die bitterböse Satire auf den übergriffigen Adel wurde zum Fanal der Französischen Revolution. Das kongeniale Libretto von Lorenzo Da Ponte spricht zudem Dinge wie Langeweile nach den ersten Ehejahren, Vertrauensbruch und weibliche Selbstbestimmtheit an. Staatsintendant Josef E. Köpplinger inszeniert Mozarts Klassiker mit der gehörigen Portion Schärfe und Humor.

Count Almaviva laughs up his sleeve: he allows his valet Figaro to marry his maid Susanna and generously accommodates them both next to his bedroom – so that he can better follow the pretty Susanna. He quickly gets rid of the page Cherubino, who is also constantly flirting with the women, by sending him to the military. But he reckoned not only without Susanna and the jealous Figaro, but above all without his wife, the Countess.

The model for Mozart's opera from 1786 was the comedy »La folle journée ou Le mariage de Figaro«, which had premiered a few years earlier and became the greatest stage success of its author Beaumarchais. The bitter satire on the encroaching nobility became the beacon of the French Revolution. The congenial libretto by Lorenzo Da Ponte also addresses things like boredom after the first years of marriage, betrayal of trust and female self-determination. State director Josef E. Köpplinger stages Mozart's classics with the right amount of sharpness and humor.
