The 2nd Festival of Crete organized by the Region of Crete presents Mozart's comic opera " The Marriage of Figaro". It is a show curated by the Lyric Theater of Crete directed by Manos Christofakakis and Heather Tan with an international character, with more than 20 artists on stage from 14 different countries in Europe, America and Asia. The music will be performed by a distinguished Vienna-based string quartet accompanied by a piano, while the first violin will play a Stradivarius from 1699, one of the rarest musical instruments with an exquisite sound.

"The Marriage of Figaro", one of the most famous works in the history of opera, is presented for the first time on the island of Crete for two unique performances on 13/8 at the Venetian walls at the Manos Hatzidakis Garden Theater in Heraklion and on 14/8 at the Venetian Fortress Barracks in Sitia.

The plot of the play revolves around Figaro's attempt to marry his beloved Susanna and the way he deals with the womanizing Count Almaviva, who lusts after her and puts obstacles in their marriage. The story is interspersed with intrigue and various comic incidents.

The direction escapes from the traditional barriers and places the action of the play in the present day, in the hideout of an illegal organization. In this mafia "family" the leader is Almaviva, that's why they call him "Count".

The play, whose libretto was written by Lorenzo da Ponte, was presented for the first time in 1786 and is a milestone in the history of opera.

Το 2ο Φεστιβάλ Κρήτης που διοργανώνεται από την Περιφέρεια Κρήτης παρουσιάζει την κωμική όπερα του Μότσαρτ «Οι γάμοι του Φίγκαρο». Πρόκειται για μια παράσταση που επιμελείται το Λυρικό Θέατρο Κρήτης σε σκηνοθεσία του Μάνου Χριστοφακάκη και της Heather Tan με διεθνή χαρακτήρα, με περισσότερους από 20 καλλιτέχνες επί σκηνής από 14 διαφορετικές χώρες της Ευρώπης, της Αμερικής και της Ασίας. Τη μουσική θα ερμηνεύσει ένα διακεκριμένο κουαρτέτο εγχόρδων με έδρα τη Βιέννη μαζί με πιάνο, ενώ το πρώτο βιολί θα παίξει με Stradivarius από το 1699, ένα από τα πιο σπάνια μουσικά όργανα με εξαίσιο ήχο.

«Οι Γάμοι του Φίγκαρο», ένα από τα πιο φημισμένα έργα στην ιστορία της όπερας, παρουσιάζεται για πρώτη φορά στο νησί της Κρήτης για δύο μοναδικές παραστάσεις στις 13/8 στα Ενετικά τείχη στο Κηποθέατρο Μάνος Χατζιδάκις στο Ηράκλειο και στις 14/8 στο Ενετικό Φρούριο Καζάρμα στη Σητεία.

Η υπόθεση του έργου κινείται γύρω από την προσπάθεια του Φίγκαρο να παντρευτεί την αγαπημένη του Σουζάνα και τον τρόπο που αντιμετωπίζει τον γυναικά Κόμη Αλμαβίβα, ο οποίος την επιθυμεί ερωτικά και τους βάζει προσκόμματα στον γάμο. Η ιστορία διανθίζεται από ίντριγκες και ποικίλα κωμικά περιστατικά.

Η σκηνοθεσία ξεφεύγει από τα παραδοσιακά στεγανά και τοποθετεί τη δράση του έργου στις μέρες μας, στο κρησφύγετο μιας παράνομης οργάνωσης. Σε αυτή τη μαφιόζικη «οικογένεια» αρχηγός είναι ο Αλμαβίβα, γι’ αυτό και τον αποκαλούν «Κόμη».
