Esta producción supone un acontecimiento musical, ya que es la primera vez que La voz humana, sobre texto de Jean Cocteau, se representa en el Teatro Real. Lo hace junto a Erwartung, y con la concepción escénica de Christof Loy (Capriccio, Rusalka, Arabella). La delicada y, al mismo tiempo, visceral aproximación a papeles femeninos será un reto en toda regla para ambas Mujeres en dos situaciones desesperadas protagonizadas por Ermonela Jaho y Mali Byström.   

Hay razones para considerar mórbido el retrato que Poulenc y Schoenberg hacen de las mujeres en los monodramas que conforman este programa doble. Nadie puede negar, sin embargo, que constituyen vehículos superlativos para la exhibición de talento dramático de sus protagonistas. Con un libreto de Jean Cocteau y estrenada en 1959, La voix humaine de Poulenc transcurre alrededor de un teléfono, en lo que podría considerarse una actualización del mito de la mujer abandonada –Medea– pasada por el vestidor de Christian Dior.

Erwartung está compuesta sobre un libreto de Marie Pappenheim, escritora, socialista y pionera de la educación sexual, así como una de las primeras mujeres doctoradas en la Universidad de Viena. Con una protagonista que personifica en sí misma la transfigurada Isolda, la necrófila Salomé y la paranoide Elektra, Erwartung es un sobrecogedor monodrama psicológico en el que la muerte del amante desencadena un torbellino de emociones –rabia, deseo, angustia, desolación– que deriva por momentos en un brutal ajuste de cuentas con el difunto y con el hipócrita sistema de valores burgués.

This production is a musical event, as it is the first time that The Human Voice, based on a text by Jean Cocteau, has been performed at the Teatro Real. It does so together with Erwartung, and with Christof Loy's (Capriccio, Rusalka, Arabella) scenic conception. The delicate and at the same time visceral approach to female roles will be a full-fledged challenge for both Women in two desperate situations starring Ermonela Jaho and Mali Byström.

In this double bill of monodramas, there are reasons to consider Poulenc and Schoenberg’s portraits of their women as morbid. No one can negate, however, that they constitute superlative vehicles for the dramatic talents of the protagonists.  With a libretto by Jean Cocteau and premiering in 1959, La voix humaine by Poulenc takes place around a telephone, in what could be considered an update on the myth of the abandoned woman –Medea– via the dressing room of Christian Dior.

Erwartung is composed on a libretto by Marie Pappenheim: writer, socialist and a pioneer in sexual education; as well as one of the first women to receive a doctorate from the University of Vienna.  With a protagonist who personifies herself as the transfigured Isolde, the necrophilia Salome and the paranoid Elektra, Erwartung is an imposing psychological monodrama: the death of the lover unleashes a whirlwind of emotions –anger, desire, anguish, desolation– which, at moments, becomes a brutal reckoning with the deceased and with the hypocritical system of bourgeois values.
