Opera in two acts "Prince Igor" by A.P. Borodin

Источником для либретто, написанного самим автором при участии В. В. Стасова, послужил памятник древнерусской литературы «Слово о полку Игореве», рассказывающий о неудачном походе князя Игоря против половцев. Премьера оперы прошла с большим успехом 23 октября (4 ноября) 1890 года в Петербурге на сцене Мариинского театра.

А.П. Бородин – известный русский композитор, автор двух опер и десятков классических музыкальных произведений, по образованию был химиком и медиком. Параллельно с научной и преподавательской деятельностью, А.П. Бородин работал над оперой «Князь Игорь» на протяжении 18 лет, но так и не успел ее закончить. Официальная причина смерти – разрыв сердца. Известный факт, что композиторы Н.А. Римский-Корсаков и А.К. Глазунов дописывали и заканчивали это произведение после смерти автора. Однако, по мнению многих исследователей, практически вся музыка была создана Бородиным, лишь увертюра и некоторые арии были записаны по памяти Глазуновым, который тесно общался с Александром Порфирьевичем.

Партии Галицкого и хана Кончака в исполнении Федора Шаляпина навсегда вошли в золотой фонд мировой оперной классики.

О спектакле:
В театре «Царицынская опера» спектакль «Князь Игорь» представлен масштабным эпическим полотном, в оригинальной режиссерской концепции одного из самых талантливых и перспективных молодых режиссеров российского музыкального театра, выпускника ГИТИСа (мастерская Дмитрия Бертмана), дважды лауреата московского Международного конкурса молодых оперных режиссеров «НАНО-ОПЕРА» – Павла Сорокина. Сценография и костюмы созданы художниками театра, членами Союза художников России Еленой Павловской и Георгием Матевосяном. Дирижером постановщиком спектакля выступил главный дирижер театра Сергей Гринев. Балетмейстеры – главный балетмейстер театра Татьяна Ерохина и Светлана Яковлева.

The source for the libretto, written by the author himself with the participation of V. V. Stasov, was the monument of ancient Russian literature "The Tale of Igor's Campaign", which tells about the unsuccessful campaign of Prince Igor against the Polovtsians. The premiere of the opera was a great success on October 23 (November 4), 1890 in St. Petersburg on the stage of the Mariinsky Theatre.

A.P. Borodin is a famous Russian composer, the author of two operas and dozens of classical musical works, he was a chemist and physician by education. In parallel with scientific and teaching activities, A.P. Borodin worked on the opera "Prince Igor" for 18 years, but did not have time to finish it. The official cause of death is heart failure. It is a well-known fact that the composers N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov and A.K. Glazunov added and finished this work after the death of the author. However, according to many researchers, almost all the music was created by Borodin, only the overture and some arias were recorded from memory by Glazunov, who was in close contact with Alexander Porfiryevich.

The parts of Galitsky and Khan Konchak performed by Fyodor Chaliapin have forever entered the golden fund of world opera classics.

About the performance
At the Tsaritsynskaya Opera, the play Prince Igor is presented as a large-scale epic canvas, in the original director's concept of one of the most talented and promising young directors of the Russian musical theater, a graduate of GITIS (Dmitry Bertman's workshop), twice winner of the Moscow International Competition for Young Opera Directors NANO -OPERA" - Pavel Sorokin. Scenography and costumes were created by the theater artists, members of the Union of Artists of Russia Elena Pavlovskaya and Georgy Matevosyan. The performance was directed by the chief conductor of the theater Sergei Grinev. The choreographers are Tatiana Erokhina and Svetlana Yakovleva, chief choreographer of the theatre.
