Europe 1825: A group of noble travelers from all over Europe are stranded in a luxury hotel near Reims for lack of horses on their way to the coronation of Charles X of France. Love affairs, intrigues, hidden intentions and jealousies soon break out between the parties. But necessity is the mother of invention and creates a bond: in the end, everyone celebrates a festival that brings »peace« together. Gioachino Rossini's "scenic cantata" was composed in 1825 on the occasion of the coronation celebrations for Charles X in Paris. The musically multicolored, highly virtuoso satirical piece brought together the political powers of Europe in the first half of the 19th century before the eyes of the ruler in a seemingly harmless hotel situation. In Laura Scozzi's production, which is as humorous as it is bitterly serious, the European aristocrats become politicians of the European Union who, in line with the EU motto »United in diversity«, try to reconcile their interests. They meet right in the heart of Europe: in the European Commission in Brussels.

Europa 1825: Eine Gruppe adliger Reisender aus ganz Europa strandet mangels Pferden auf dem Weg zur Krönung Karls X. von Frankreich in einem Luxushotel in der Nähe von Reims. Schon bald brechen sich Liebeshändel, Intrigen, verborgene Absichten und Eifersüchteleien zwischen den Parteien Bahn. Doch Not macht erfinderisch und schweißt zusammen: Am Ende feiern alle ein gemeinsames »Frieden« stiftendes Fest. Gioachino Rossinis »szenische Kantate« entstand 1825 aus Anlass der Krönungsfeierlichkeiten für Karl X. in Paris. Das musikalisch vielfarbige, hochvirtuose Satire-Stück versammelte vor den Augen des Herrschers in einer scheinbar harmlosen Hotel-Situation die politischen Mächte Europas in der ersten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts. In der ebenso humorvollen wie bitterernsten Inszenierung von Laura Scozzi werden aus den europäischen Adligen Politiker der Europäischen Union, die gemäß dem Motto der EU »In Vielfalt geeint« versuchen, ihre Interessen unter einen Hut zu bekommen. Sie treffen sich mitten im Herzen Europas: In der Europäischen Kommission in Brüssel.
