This four-part Verdi opera, on a libretto by Salvatore Cammarano, is part of the well-known popular trilogy (together with Rigoletto and La traviata ). It is an opera with a complex plot, imbued with the dramatic contrasts that well characterize Verdi in the mid-nineteenth century. The first performance, in Rome in 1853, was a huge success.

The story takes place in Spain at the beginning of the 15th century. In the beginning, the story of the kidnapping of the younger son of the old Count di Luna by a gypsy (Azucena) to avenge her mother, who was executed for having committed a spell, is told. Subsequently, the love affair between Leonora, a noble loved by the young Count di Luna, and the troubadour Manrico is intertwined. Through jealousies, fires, duels and lies, only at the end will the true identity of the Trovatore - the son of the kidnapped Count - be discovered too late to avoid the tragic epilogue

Questo melodramma verdiano in quattro parti, su libretto di Salvatore Cammarano, fa parte della nota trilogia popolare (insieme a Rigoletto e a La traviata). È un’opera con una trama complessa, intrisa dei contrasti drammatici che ben caratterizzano il Verdi di metà Ottocento. La prima rappresentazione, a Roma nel 1853, fu un grandissimo successo.

La vicenda si svolge in Spagna all’inizio del XV secolo. In principio viene narrata la storia del rapimento del figlio minore del vecchio Conte di Luna da parte di una zingara (Azucena) per vendicare la madre, giustiziata per aver compiuto un maleficio. Successivamente si intreccia la vicenda d’amore tra Leonora, nobile amata dal giovane Conte di Luna, e il trovatore Manrico. Attraverso gelosie, roghi, duelli e menzogne solo alla fine si scoprirà la vera identità del Trovatore – il figlio del Conte rapito- troppo tardi per evitare il tragico epilogo.
