In order to appease Poseidon, the god of the sea, Idomeneo, returning from the war, promises to sacrifice the first person he meets in his homeland - but this is fatally his son Idamante. But can the father give his son? What the Salzburg child prodigy Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart did with the ancient material at the age of 25 still leaves one speechless with enthusiasm. Mozart plumbs the pain of all the characters to the extreme and yet offers a humane way out of the tragedy: King Idomeneo renounces power and crown, while the god renounces power and sacrifice. For the popular Serbian theater director Miloš Lolić, Mozart's confessional work of the Enlightenment will be the first opera direction.
