Hope And Redemption: Cantique de Jean Racine, Op.11 Fauré (+2 More)

Bookending our first extended concert after the forced hiatus will be two masterpieces by Gabriel Fauré, one of the most influential French composers, who lived and worked in the decades around the fin-de-siècle period.

Profound and restrained, he could also be described as shy. A recollection from late in his life says a great deal about his childhood and worldview: “The only thing I remember really clearly is the harmonium in that little chapel.” For the most part, his music dispenses with drama. At the centre of his Requiem, one of his most significant works, which will be featured at the concert, is the thought of reconciliation and resignation.

Wonderfully suited to the two Fauré pieces is the contemporary choral work to be performed between them: Zoltán Kovács composed his work Give Me Tranquillity to text by the poet Bálint Balassi. The piece will receive its world première in a capella form at our concert.

Gabriel Fauré, a 19-20. század fordulóján élt egyik legnagyobb hatású francia zeneszerző két remekműve keretezi hosszabb kényszerpihenő utáni első koncertünket.

Fauré elmélyült, visszafogott, mondhatni szemérmes komponista volt. Gyerekkoráról, világképéről sokat elmond időskori visszaemlékezése: „… az egyetlen dolog, amire igazán világosan emlékszem, az a harmónium volt abban a kis kápolnában….” Zenéje többnyire nélkülözi a drámaiságot. Egyik legjelentősebb opusa, a hangversenyen elhangzó Requiem középpontjában is a megbékélés, a megnyugvás gondolata áll.

Nagyszerűen rímel a két Fauré-alkotásra a közöttük felcsendülő kortárs kórusmű, a Kovács Zoltán által Balassi Bálint szövegére komponált Adj már csendességet. A kompozíció a cappella formája koncertünkön ősbemutatóként hangzik el.
