Zuerst am Off-Broadway gezeigt, mit John Cameron Mitchell als Hedwig, wanderte es nur wenige Jahre später weiter auf die Leinwand und wurde als Film adaptiert. Auch international feierte das Werk Erfolge, sowohl als Theaterstück als auch als Film. 2014 folgte schließlich dann die Premiere am Broadway, Hauptdarsteller damals war Neil Patrick Harris, die mit vier Tony-Awards ausgezeichnet wurde. Dies ist nur der letzte Beweis für den Kultstatus, den das Rockmusical und seine Hauptfigur, die Dragqueen Hedwig, erlangt hat.

This is just the latest proof of the cult status that the rock musical and its main character, the drag queen Hedwig, has achieved.
